DeckLink HD is fully digital, switches between standard definition, and high definition video with ease. Although lower cost than other standard definition video cards, DeckLink HD features the highest quality 10 bit uncompressed HDTV SDI video.

Blackmagic DeckLink HD has been specifically designed to make connecting a Macintosh™ workstation to any SDI based broadcast digital deck in either standard definition or high definition video easy and low cost.

When running standard definition SDI video, DeckLink HD is fully compatible with decks such as Sony Digital Betacam™, D1™, Panasonic DVC Pro 25™, DVC Pro 50™, D5, Sony™ J series. All digital decks with industry standard SDI connections are supported, and setup is quick and easy.

When you need to do HDTV work, just switch Final Cut Pro™ easy setups, or open a HDTV clip in our included Blackmagic Deck Control application, and all SDI connections change over to full HDTV format, for connection to any SDI based HDTV deck.

By using SD/HD-SDI connections, Blackmagic DeckLink contains video, and all audio channels down the single BNC type video cable. A Sony™ RS422 compatible deck control port is also provided making setup quick and easy. DeckLink HD also includes SDI and SPDIF audio outputs for low cost, monitoring.

HDTV formats support include 1080i/50, 1080i/29.97, 1080i/30 interlaced, 1080p/23.976, 1080p/24 progressive. Also supported is 720p formats, and other formats can be added because DeckLink HD firmware can be updated when new software updates are released on the Blackmagic Design web site. This allows DeckLink HD to keep compatibility with any changes in the HDTV standards over time.

When running standard definition, DeckLink HD will work in both NTSC and PAL television standards.

DeckLink HD features the most advanced PCIX interface and is the first video card to support the incredible speed of the new PCIX 133 MHz slots in the new Apple Power Macintosh™ G5 systems.

DeckLink HD is also compatible with the standard PCI 33 MHz slots in the older Apple Power Macintosh™ G4 systems for standard definition only work. This allows incredible flexibility, and lets you upgrade as fast as your budget allows!

DeckLink HD features independent connections for your monitor and broadcast deck. DeckLink HD's SDI video monitoring output can be converted to analog for video monitoring, and the SPDIF digital audio is compatible with common consumer audio equipment that features digital audio input. SPDIF has pro audio bits set, so you can easily connect to full AES/EBU pro audio equipment.

DeckLink HD features many more video formats than other video cards with 10 bit uncompressed, 8 bit uncompressed, and JPEG for standard definition and high definition formats. Working with full resolution JPEG allows amazing quality offline edits. 24 fps JPEG is also great for feature film offline work.

Uncompressed 8 bit, and JPEG formats are incredibly flexible when the high quality of 10 bit uncompressed is not required, and disk space is tight. When running standard definition, you can even play our DV files to uncompressed SDI video out.

When pulling heavy image treatments and color grades, or when working on the most intricate graphic designs, 10 bit uncompressed will retain all the utmost precision of the SDI video format and eliminate image banding or contouring.

Even when working with 8 RGB applications, 10 bit uncompressed video will keep higher precision when moving pixels between RGB and YUV video space resulting in a dramatically better image quality.

When working in Adobe After Effects™, the Blackmagic 64 bit codec allows 16 bit RGB per channel rendering. This takes full advantage of the uncompressed 10 bit video quality available from decks such as Digital Betacam™, and D5™. Uncompressed 8 bit is great when you still want the benefit of uncompressed video, however you need to squeeze more space out of your capture disk.

Uncompressed 8 bit is also fully compatible with other uncompressed video cards. You can capture on a DeckLink HD and move files onto other systems without rendering. This is a great timesaver, and lets you take advantage possibilities of QuickTime™ by mixing and matching cards to suit your needs, no matter who the manufacturer is.

The compressed JEPG format uses very little disk space, so you can even capture to your internal IDE disk or FireWire external disk!

The quality of Online JPEG is fantastic, and is full resolution in both HD and SD. This creates tremendous workflow possibilities that have never been previously available. You can even capture to many firewire disks and edit parts of your job on lower cost systems such as iMac's.

When your edit is finished, just plug in your FireWire disk, and open and play out your finished project to tape. You don't even need to copy the project or media files! That's incredible flexibility, and imagine editing your feature film offline on your notebook down at a local cafe!

One of the most exciting formats on the DeckLink HD when running in standard definition video is DV playback. You can take any DV project in applications such as Final Cut Pro™, and play them out to SDI video instantly, and without rendering.

This allows you to cut down DV based field originated material to more manageable levels and saves huge amounts of disk space. Many projects can even be mastered as DV, and then output to Digital Betacam™ or other higher end formats for final release.

DV playback allows for exciting workflow methods because it's compatible with thousands of DV cameras available today. This allows much easier integration of high-end post production with consumer grade video than before. That's a feature demanded by many clients as their video acquisition options increase. DeckLink HD lets you easily take advantage of this flexibility.

Even when on the road, you can use FireWire equipped Powerbook systems to edit with on DV, and then using target disk mode, mount the Powerbook internal disk on your DeckLink HD system, and open and play out your edit. Target disk mode is enabled by pressing the 'T key' at startup, and will let your Powerbook emulate a FireWire hard disk.

Blackmagic DeckLink HD features real time effects when running in standard definition video that are great when working on long format work such as episodic television program production. Real Time effects can be updated via internet downloads and new effects are being released constantly.

Many exciting real time effects are included with the DeckLink HD. These include Cross Dissolve, Non Additive Dissolve, Additive Dissolve, Fade in Fade out, Dip to Color, Sepia, Desaturate, Brightness Contrast, Proc Amp, Tint, and Gamma Correction and 3 way color correction on both 8 bit and 10 bit uncompressed modes. More effects are constantly being added and DeckLink HD is fully compatible with the built in RT Extreme in Final Cut Pro™ 4 for standard definition RT.

DeckLink HD is also more compatible than any other card on the market. It's the first full speed 133 MHz PCIX 3.3 volt card for the Apple G5, but it's also fully compatible with the 33 MHz 5.0 volt PCI slots in the current model G4 computers.

One of the most fun features of the Blackmagic DeckLink HD is the video desktop.
